Part 1: Italian History and Current Events
The Reason:
Italian culture is a reflection and adaptation of centuries of rich history. Fostering an understanding of the meaning behind key historical events can help us build a deeper comprehension of Italian cultural values, traditions, and norms.
The Objective:
These presentations are designed to go beyond the dates and names found in the history books. Instead, we will focus on crucial events in Italy’s history and their significance, whether on a symbolic or material plane.
Session 1 - Wednesday, May 11, 6:00-8:00 PM
Etruscan Italy, Rome from the foundation to the Republic, the Empire and the Middle Ages
Session 2- Wednesday, May 18, 6:00-8:00 PM
The Renaissance, Italian Unification, and Modern-Day Italian Politics and Issues
Part 2: Navigating Italy: Gastronomy, Cultural Tips, Business Etiquette, Social Norms
The Reason:
Every culture has distinct norms and traditions. We will provide an insider perspective, not only identifying these cultural differences, but also explaining them in light of customs and traditions.
The Objective:
Italians don’t drink cappuccinos after Noon, but instead of seeing this as a stern “rule,” would you be interested in knowing why it exists? You will walk away with actionable cultural tips and an understanding of the reasoning behind them.
