Just in time for “le feste di Natale”, join us at Mid-City Kitchen and learn to make 2 traditional Italian cookies from Piedmont – Margherite di Stresa and Baci di Dama.
Margherite di Stresa are daisy shape cookies typical of the town of Stresa, created in 1857 by the pastry chef Pietro Antonio Bolongaro owner of the bakery. They derive their name from that of the future princess Queen Margherita , to whom they were offered on the occasion of her first communion, celebrated in 1857.
"Baci di Dama" meaning "Lady's kisses" consist of two hazelnut cookies joined together by chocolate, representing the "kiss" in the name. Baci di dama originate from the town of Tortona and they were created in the 19th Century as a way to utilize hazelnuts that are local to the Piedmont region.
ICC instructor and Italian native, Romina Montanari will guide our small group through the cookie making process and talk about how Christmas is celebrated in Italy. Enjoy a glass of wine and make your own cookies to bring home.
Please bring 2 containers to bring home 60 cookies, about 30 of each kind.
