La siciliana ribelle (The Sicilian Girl)
Directed by Marco Amenta, 2009, 115 minutes

"Rome, 1992. What I really want when I die is to have a burial ceremony with only a few people attending -- those who took my side in the struggle for justice. I don't want my mother to come, or to visit my grave following my death, absolutely not..."

Rita Mancuso seals these fateful words into the confines of her private diary. On November 5, 1991 this young 17-year-old Sicilian woman goes to see the anti-Mafia Prosecutor to seek vengeance for the murders of her father and brother, both “Men of Honour” in the Mafia. It is the first time that such a young woman from a family linked to the Mafia breaks the code of silence. From now on, Rita’s days are numbered. She has only nine months to live.
