Reception in honor of
Prof. Marcello Alecci
Science Attaché
We are delighted to host an informal Aperitivo at the Italian Cultural Center of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Marcello Alecci, Professor of Applied Physics at the University of L'Aquila, Italy, and an international expert in spectroscopy and NMR imaging, was appointed in May 2023 by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Scientific Attaché at the Consulate General of Italy in Chicago.
Prof. Alecci will be the evening's guest of honor, and we hope that this event will foster communications between the Italian scientific community of the Twin Cities and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A native of Modica, Prof. Alecci has held research contracts at the University of L'Aquila, three Marie Curie scholarships, each lasting one year at the University of Aberdeen and the University of L'Aquila, a three-year EU BIOMED post-doc position at the University of Oxford and a one-year MIUR chair for the "Return of the Brains" at the University of L'Aquila.
In 2003, he was appointed Associate Professor, and in 2017, he earned the permanent position of Full Professor at the University of L'Aquila.
Prof. Alecci has taught various courses, including "General Physics and Laboratory" (Biotechnology degree program), "The Physics and Technology of Molecular Imaging" (Biotechnology degree program and Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology Ph.D. program), "Diagnostic Instrumentation and Laboratory" (Specialization School in Medical Physics), and "Intellectual Property & Technology Transfer" (Ph.D. Schools at the University of L'Aquila).
From 2008 to 2013, Prof. Alecci served as the Pro-Rector for Technology Transfer at the University of L'Aquila, overseeing patents, spin-offs, and licensing.
He founded and directed programs such as the Advanced Master in "Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer" (2007, 2009, 2011), the "Business Plan Competition" (2011, 2012) and the "Innovation Industrial Fellowships" (2011, 2012). He co-chaired the ESMRMB summer schools on "Advanced RF Coil Design" at the University of L'Aquila (2016, 2017, 2018). From 2020 to 2022, he served as the vice president of GIDRM, a non-profit Italian scientific association with over 500 members working on spectroscopy and NMR imaging.
This is his first visit to the Twin Cities!
Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
