In collaboration with the Walker Art Center, we offer a rare opportunity to experience Italian contemporary art here in Minneapolis. The on-going exhibition, “Art at the Center: 75 Years of Walker Collection”, which celebrates the 75 years of the institution gathers a number of works of art by Italian artists belonging to the influential movement known as “Arte Povera”.

The Arte Povera movement developed during the second half of 1960’s between the end of Italian economical resurgence after World War II and the rise of worker/student insurrections. This movement is widely recognized for the richness of its ideas and its ability to influence new generations of artists. The art magazine, Frieze defines Arte Povera as “organic, industrial, bio-chemical, in flux, phenomenological, presentational and non-representational, almost devoid of color and implicitly anti-consumerist”.

Organized and led by Lorella Angelini, this “made for ICC” tour represents a unique opportunity to focus on the works of art by Arte Povera’s artists currently on display at the Walker. It will also draw a comparison between Arte Povera and the well-known American Pop Art, a major movement that developed during the same period of time and is associated with famous artists, such as Andy Warhol and Claes Oldenburg.

The tour will take place on Thursday, February 19th, 6:00 - 7:15 p.m. Participants will meet at the Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Avenue, in the Bazinet Lobby, located near the Vineland entrance. The tour will be spoken in Italian. The cost is $15 for members; $20 for non-members.

Lorella is a native of Pesaro, in the Marche region of Italy. She holds a graduate degree in Civil Engineering from Marche Polytechnic University. She moved to the USA in 1998. When she arrived in Minneapolis in 1999, she became a member of the Walker Art Center and joined its tour guide team in 2003. She enjoys participating in the life of the Walker, where she has been able to nourish her passion for art, while learning teaching skills and techniques.

Space will be limited, so please register here today. Contact Peggy at info@theitalianculturalcenter.org with questions. Please note that this event will be conducted in Italian.

All events must be cancelled 72 hours in advance to receive a refund, less an administrative fee.
