Food and Wine

Loved throughout the world, Italian cuisine offers a great variety of tastes and ingredients.  Tracing its roots from the 4th century BC, the flavors and dishes of Italy have been influenced by rulers and conquerors, political upheaval and the discovery of the New World. Each region and even province has its own food specialties and wines. 

From pasta making to chocolate tasting and wine sampling, the Italian Cultural Center offers many events to celebrate Italy’s rich culinary landscape.

    Buongiorno! Join us for another fun class of this popular series.

    On Saturday, October 20  from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m., Elisabetta Re, Italian native, will lead a small group in a casual conversation format. Participants will enjoy traditional Italian coffee, Italian breakfast staples – pane, burro e marmellata – along with some dolcetti.

    This is intended to be a very informal class aimed at Italian students of all proficiency levels. This class will offer the opportunity to practice the Italian phrases you know, learn new ones and improve your comprehension skills – all in a laid back atmosphere.

    Vini del Centro Italia - Wines from Central Italy


    Taste and journey through Central Italy’s regions of Abruzzo, Tuscany, Umbria, Le Marche and Emilia Romagna. Seminar style wine tasting expertly lead by Nikki Erpelding, sampling the wines of the esteemed Leonardo LoCascio Italian wine portfolio.

    The tasting will be on Thursday, November 8th, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM, at North Loop Wine and Spirits' beautiful cellar space in Minneapolis. Free parking available in the lot adjacent to the building as well as metered street parking nearby. Light appetizers

    With a passion for food and wine…Nikki’s storied career includes, restaurant management, boutique wine wholesaler, retail management/buyer in Wine & Spirits. Nikki’s full-time position is Italian fine wine specialist & Territory Manager of Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska & the Dakotas, for Leonardo LoCascio Selections, a member of The Winebow Group.

    Nikki’s role as wine educator began in 2011 at Saint Paul College teaching the 14 week-Wine Professional Certificate program and now also runs the Globally recognized WSET level 1 and 2 wine courses at her new school, Vine Lab Wine & Spirits Academy MN.

    Gnocchi – delicate Italian dumplings made from potatoes and traditionally served as a first course – are a versatile and delicious alternative to fresh pasta. Most Italian regions have their own version of these soft pillows of goodness.  

    To learn how to make traditional gnocchi, join our instructor, Modena native, Romina Montanari for a hands-on session.

    The class will be held at Mid-City Kitchen in St. Paul. Romina, will demonstrate and guide you through the process of making your very own gnocchi!  Each participant will sample gnocchi in a light sauce and enjoy a glass of wine in a fun atmosphere. Everyone will take home the gnocchi they just made.

    All ingredients are included, but please bring a large cookie tray and two light kitchen towels to carry your gnocchi home.

    The event is scheduled for Sunday, November 18th, 2:00 – 4:00 PM.  The location is easy to find, conveniently located near the Green line of the light rail. If you choose to drive, free parking is available.
