
Children's Programming
Children of all ages, but especially five and under, are invited to the monthly story hour to enjoy books presented in Italian by parents and grandparents and Italian songs performed on the guitar by Carlo Cicala.
The Italian story hour will take place at 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM on the following Sundays: January 18, February 15, April 5, May 3 and June 14. movies. Screenings start at 12:30 PM on the following Saturdays:

January 24 - Totò Sapore e la magica storia della
pizza (Maurizio Forestieri, 2003)
Totò Sapore is a young storyteller with a dream: to become a good
cook. His life changes when he meets Pulcinella, who presents him
with four old magic pans able to transform any mess into delicious
food. Thanks to these pans, he becomes the king of Naples’ personal

Italian Language Classes for Children Beginner/intermediate
medi: 4-6 years Saturdays from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM 10 January - 7 March Cost: $100.00 A 60 minute immersion-style lesson for children with little to no prior experience with Italian. Students will develop vocabulary and basic oral communication skills through interactive songs, stories, games and imaginative play that introduce aspects of contemporary Italian culture. Monthly field trips. The textbook and exercise book (Raccontami 1: Corso di lingua Italiana per bambini) will be available for purchase on the first day of classes.
Beginner/intermediate grandi: 7-10 years Saturdays from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM 10 January - 7 March 2009 Cost: $100.00 A 60 minute immersion-style lesson for children with little to no prior experience with Italian. Students will hone their comprehension and pronunciation skills and continue developing vocabulary and oral communication skills through fun, interactive age-appropriate activities encouraging the exploration of contemporary Italian culture. Monthly field trips. The textbook and exercise book (Raccontami 2: Corso di lingua Italiana per bambini) will be available for purchase on the first day of classes.
Bilingual/advanced piccoli: 3 years
Saturdays from 10:40 AM - 11:40 AM; snack 11:40 AM - 12:10 PM 10 January - 7 March 2009 Cost: $80.00 A full-immersion 60 minute lesson followed by a snack.
Children engage in songs, games and other interactive age-appropriate
activities encouraging exploration of Italian language and culture.
A single guardian is requested to remain throughout the class.
Field trips on January 31 and February 28 in lieu of class.
Bilingual/advanced medi I: 4-5 years
Saturdays from 10:10 AM - 11:40 AM; snack 11:40 AM - 12:10PM 10 January - 7 March 2009 Cost: $100.00 A 90 minute full-immersion lesson and 30 minute snack
for children with advanced or bilingual language skills. The class
follows an Italian preschool curriculum through songs, games and
other age-appropriate activities encouraging movement and socialization.
Field trips on January 31 and February 28 in lieu of class.
Bilingual/advanced
medi II: Kindergarten-2nd grade
Saturdays from 10:10 AM - 11:40 AM; snack 11:40 AM - 12:10 PM 10 January - 7 March 2009 Cost: $100.00 A 90 minute full-immersion lesson and 30 minute snack for children with advanced or bilingual language skills. The class follows an Italian kindergarten through second grade curriculum emphasizing history and culture. Through the presentation of age appropriate themes, games and fun activities, children are encouraged to engage in spontaneous conversation and interaction with peers, enriching their vocabulary. A portion of each lesson is dedicated to practicing basic writing and reading skills. Field trips on January 31 and February 28 in lieu of class. *The medi II and grandi classes combine for parts of their weekly lesson.
Bilingual/advanced
grandi: 3rd–5th grade
Saturdays from 10:10 AM - 11:40 AM; snack 11:40 AM - 12:10 PM 10 January - 7 March 2009 Cost: $100.00 A 90 minute full-immersion lesson and 30 minute snack for children with advanced or bilingual language skills. Children will follow an Italian advanced elementary curriculum emphasizing grammar, literature, history and culture. Field trips on January 31 and February 28 in lieu of class. *The medi II and grandi classes combine for parts of their weekly lesson.
Registration
and Enrollment Policies
Registration: Registrations will be processed through Pay Pal payment only; we apologize for any inconvenience, but the ICC no longer accepts personal checks. Second and third children receive a 20% tuition discount. Only newly registering families need to complete the registration form (registration form) and send it to the ICC prior to the first day of class. Successful registration will be confirmed by phone or email. Please contact admin@theitalianculturalcenter.org with questions about payment. Cancellation: The ICC reserves the right to cancel any course with insufficient enrollment. Instructors
Leonardo Rapallini, head teacher/coordinator of the piccoli and father of three, has over eight years of experience developing programs for young children through his volunteer work as a Master Scout. Carlo Cicala-Saracino, teacher of the beginner/intermediate medi class and father of three, was trained at the diplomatic school of the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C. He then taught Italian to the diplomatic corps for seven years. One of his students was meant to be Bill Clinton, but the President was too busy getting ready for the G8 (which took place in Genoa, Italy) and missed all three classes. Carlo is also the talented music director of the monthly Italian story hour. Soly Samaniego, teacher of the beginner/intermediate grandi, is a recent transplant from Genoa, Italy. She has experience in the tourist industry and is very eager about the opportunity to teach Italian. Cristina Ferraris, head teacher/coordinator
of the advanced/bilingual medi I class and mother of two, has
a foreign languages degree and extensive experience as a foreign
language tutor. She has also been a youth educator in summer
camps for children 4 to 10 years old. Carlotta Dradi Bower, head teacher/coordinator of the bilingual/advanced medi II class and mother of one, holds an MA in Italian Literature from the University of Minnesota and a BA from the Conservatory of Music in Ravenna, Italy. She has over 7 years of experience as a Teaching Specialist in the Italian Department at the U of M and several more years of private tutoring in both Italian and in Music. Silvia Barducci, head teacher/coordinator of the advanced/bilingual grandi class and mother of three, received her elementary school teaching degree in Florence from the Istituto Magistrale Giovanni Pascoli. She has five years of experience as a substitute teacher in the St. Paul school system. Scholarship Opportunities
Concordia Language Villages offers two $500 scholarships to study Italian at their immersion language camps; the scholarships are offered exclusively to families enrolled in children's classes at the Italian Cultural Center and can be applied to either Summer Youth Programs or Italian Family Week.
