Beginner/Intermediate Track

The beginner/intermediate track is designed for children with little to no experience with the Italian language. The 60 minute weekly lessons are conducted in Italian by university-educated instructors with native or native-like fluency and emphasize the gradual acquisition of basic reading, writing and grammar skills as students advance through the three levels. Students may enter the curriculum at any point. Please contact the Youth Language School director, Luisa Narducci O' Gara, luisaogara@hotmail.com with questions regarding curriculum and/or placement.

Parent volunteers organize informal opportunities for students and their parents to meet and interact with other families in more casual social settings. Previous outings have included a trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, sledding and an authentic Italian winter meal at Powderhorn Park, a trip to the Caponi Art Park and Learning Center and making pizzas as guests of the Uptown Punch Pizza.

FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/18  Italian classes will be offered for beginner/intermediate level on SATURDAY MORNING from 10:15 to 11:15

This will be the ideal environment to learn Italian language and culture. Classes need to be a minimum of 4 students to a maximum 10 to ensure individual attention, while  still offering social and practical interaction among the students.

The ICC requires a minimum of 4 students in any group class.  When enrollment drops below this number, the families will be offered the option of remitting a tuition supplement.  If all involved families agree to the supplement, the class can materialize.

Fall semester 2017 (12 weeks): September 16 - December 16, 2017; no classes on Saturday October 21 (Education Minnesota Conference) and Saturday November 23 (Thanksgiving). Christmas party (Festa di Natale) will take place on the last lesson of December 16 in room 502.

Winter/Spring semester 2018 (12 weeks): January 20-May 5, 2018; no classes on Saturday February 3, Saturday February 17 (Presidents 'Day); March 24 (Spring Break); March 31 (Easter weekend).

Membership The ICC has adopted a policy requiring membership for all language classes. Membership allows lower rates on classes than previously charged for non-member registration. Plus, membership includes discounts on other classes and events, as well as other benefits. Family membership is recommended, which covers parents and children. However, it is possible to purchase an individual membership for a child. Follow this link to became a member http://www.theitalianculturalcenter.org/jointoday

The Italian Summer Camp is almost here! Don’t miss the chance to register your kids for this wonderful adventure in the authentic language, culture and food of the Bel Paese.

Camp will be based on Italian culture, art, music, food and language.  Participants do not need to speak Italian to enroll.

Activities will include going on two field trips: a guided visit to the MIA to explore and learn about Italian art; and a visit to Punch Pizza to learn how to make wood-fired pizza.

The material, the food and the field trips are all included in the cost of the registration!

The camp is designed for all levels of Italian knowledge. For those who already speak the language, this will be a great opportunity to practice with their peers. For those who are just approaching the language for the first time, this will be an opportunity to start to learn simple words, phrases and new meaning of the language. The camp is lead by passionate native Italian instructors.
